Collection of Louis Karpinski, 1500-1799.

The collection is made up of facsimiles of maps related to America before 1800. It includes: a. Portolan charts, mainly 16th century; b. maps of French exploration and settlement, especially in Canada, Great Lakes area, Mississippi River basin and the Louisiana Territory; c. maps of Spanish exploration and settlement, especially in Florida, Louisiana Territory, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean areas, American Southwest, West Coast from Mexico to the Bering Straits, and Mexico; and d. military maps of the American Revolution, including the European conflict in the West Indies and naval encounters during the period. The collection also includes many maps showing the locations of various Indian tribes.
